Seminary

Archbishop Charles W Finn Theological Seminary

The Seminary was established in 1923 and is the official seminary of the Liberal Catholic Church International. It runs a 2 year programme to train candidates for the priesthood. Ordinands are taught in a distance learning format, under the guidance of a tutor appointed by the candidate's ordinary Bishop.

Through the set curriculum, Seminary candidates in the Province (ordinands), take a journey of inner spiritual discovery and discernment through reading, writing and reflection, during which they are expected to commit to saying the Daily Liturgical Offices of Prime and Complin. At appropriate times during their two years of study – assessed by the Director of Studies and the Bishop, student ordinands are elevated through the Minor Orders. It is at that stage that the decision is formally made as to whether the candidate is to be accepted into the Major Orders of Sub Deacon, Deacon and Priest – this is by no means a foregone conclusion at the commencement of study.
